IN MEMORIAM
This year, we say goodbye to some very special members of our Canine Therapy Corps family. These remarkable dogs touched countless lives with their gentle presence, unconditional love, and quiet strength. Their paws may no longer walk beside us, but their impact endures—in the comfort they gave, the joy they brought, and the hope they inspired. We honor their memory with gratitude and love.
Charlie, a Golden Retriever, certified with his handlers, Saul and Cathy, in January 2024. Charlie volunteered at Lawrence Hall and Jesse Brown VA Medical Center psychosocial programs along with many outreach events. Charlie passed away from cancer in May at 6 years old. While his therapy dog career may have been short, he touched many lives and is fondly remembered by anyone who had the opportunity to meet him.
Jovie, a Doberman Pinscher, certified with her handler, Mary Dellorto, in August 2022. Jovie volunteered at our psychosocial program at Lawrence Hall and our physical rehabilitation program at Swedish Hospital. Jovie also went to Camp I Am Me in 2023 and 2024 where she worked with child burn survivors. She was an AKC Breed Champion and ranked #5 in the Doberman Pinscher Club of America’s Obedience Top 20. Jovie spread a lot of happiness and love before she lost her 10 month battle with Hemangiosarcoma in January at just 7 years old.
Leeloo, a Blue Pit mix, certified with her handler, Tamara Gansz, in 2015. Leeloo volunteered at Lawrence Hall for several years and also participated in our program with the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. She attended a variety of outreach events where she visited students, corporate staff, and more. She was eager to work and known for her friendly, vibrant personality. Leeloo was 11 years old when she passed away.
Lucia, a Shepherd mix, certified with her handler, Mario Triolo, in 2013. Lucia volunteered at many places over the years, including Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, Lawrence Hall, Swedish Hospital, and countless outreach events. In addition to therapy dog volunteering, Lucia loved giving kisses, snuggling, belly rubs and searching for leftover treats. She was a therapy dog for nearly 10 years and her legacy will never be forgotten. Lucia was 15 years old when she passed away in March.
